COVID UPDATE – Bloomington Classroom Sessions Cancelled
2020 COVID-19 NOTICE
UPDATE: Due to the recent spike in COVID-19 cases in Illinois, along with the state’s more restrictive rules for gatherings, our continuing education courses scheduled for December 1st and 2nd have been cancelled. Our apologies for the inconvenience, but after consulting with several health experts, we believe that the health and safety of both the students and our employees must be the top priority in this time of uncertainty. If you have already enrolled in these classes, please contact the Novalis office for other alternatives (Online and/or Home Study) that you can select to obtain your 12 hours of C.E.
NEW FOR 2020!
Distance Learning Options | New Course Offerings | Online Proctored Exams
NEW! Novalis Online Distance Learning Courses
Novalis Learning now offers our Distance Learning courses online, so it’s easier for you to complete your training on your schedule! Online courses include new topics—Charitable Auctions and Marketing the Auction Business—in addition to the sexual harassment prevention training that is now required by the state of Illinois. Our four online Distance Learning courses will allow you to meet the 12-hour total CE requirement for renewing your license by December 31st of 2020.
NEW! Sexual Harassment Prevention Training
Effective January 1, 2020, all professionals licensed by the state must take one hour of sexual harassment prevention training as part of their continuing education. This training must take place in either a classroom setting or online. Novalis has combined this topic with Ethics and is offering it as a 3-hour mandatory course by these two delivery methods—see our course categories below.
NEW! Novalis Online Proctored Exams
For a fee, you can now take your proctored exam online, making it easier and more convenient to renew your Illinois auctioneer license. Simply purchase the number of proctored exams you need, coordinate a convenient time with a Novalis proctor, and take the test(s) required for your license renewal. To sign up for this service, please click here. Note that you are not required to use this service and you can still use an “in-person” proctor, if that is more convenient.
Illinois
Distance Learning — Online
Our distance learning offerings include the newly mandated “Sexual Harassment Prevention Training,” which we have combined with the “Ethics” topic for a 3-hour mandatory course. We also have the nine additional hours you need to meet the 12-hour CE requirement necessary to renew your license before December 31, 2020. Use online learning to complete your training on a schedule and at a pace that’s convenient for you!
Illinois
Home Study — Booklets
Do you want an alternative to taking continuing education courses in the classroom?
Our Home Study program is an easy and convenient way to earn 9 of the 12 hours of CE that you need to renew your license before December 31, 2020. As mandated by the state this year, the final 3-hour course (Ethics and Sexual Harassment Prevention Training) must be taken either in a classroom setting or online, both of which Novalis will be offering during the year.
Illinois
Online Proctored Exams
Our online proctored exams make it easy and convenient to fulfill the continuing education requirements for your Illinois auctioneer license from the safety of your own home or office. Just purchase the proctored exams you need, coordinate a convenient time with a Novalis proctor, and take the test(s) required for your license renewal. Please don’t wait until December 31 to schedule your exams as there may not be any time slots available.
How Much Continuing Education Do I Need?
Illinois: Complete 12 hours of approved CE every renewal period, of which 6 hours must cover mandatory course topics that include the 3 hours of Ethics and Sexual Harassment Prevention Training. Licenses expire on December 31 of even-numbered years, and CE must be completed during each renewal period prior to license expiration. For more info, click here.
Classroom Sessions vs. Home Study (Booklets) vs. Distance Learning (Online)
Our Classroom program is ideal for the student who wants to take CE courses with fellow auctioneers and a live instructor. We will offer our quality auctioneer Continuing Education Classroom program at various locations in Illinois in the fall of 2020. View the schedule below, or check back later, for dates and locations.
Our Home Study program is ideal for the student who wants to take CE at any time without the hassle and expense of traveling to a class. You will receive a course booklet (by your choice of either mail or email) as well as information on selecting a proctor for the exam required by the state in order for you to receive credit. Only 9 of the 12 hours can be earned via this method as the state of Illinois requires that the Ethics/Sexual Harassment Prevention Training be taken either in a classroom setting or online. Home Study courses may be subject to shipping & handling fees and sales tax.
Our Distance Learning program offers the convenience of online courses for any student who wants to take CE on their own schedule. Purchase your online courses, and we’ll send you a confirmation email with login information and the link to access Novalis Distance Learning courses. Once logged in to begin your studies, you’ll be able to download course materials and Novalis Instructions & Information regarding coursework and your proctored exam. Returning Novalis students can use their previously-approved proctor, if appropriate, or can elect to take the proctored exam online.
Online or In-person Proctoring
For a fee, you can now take your proctored exam online, making it easier and more convenient to renew your Illinois auctioneer license. Simply purchase the number of proctored exams you need, coordinate a convenient time with a Novalis proctor, and take the test(s) required for your license renewal. For more information, click here.
If you prefer to use an “in-person” proctor, then complete the proctor form and return it to the Novalis office. Please download this Novalis Instructions & Information handout for more details.

Last Updated: July 2020
Registration
Registration can be completed through our secure web site, by mail or fax using a Novalis order form, or by telephone. If you prefer not to order online and/or do not have a course registration form, please contact us and we’ll send one to you.
Payment
Payment for all courses is due upon your registration in the course. Payment may be made in the form of an approved credit card (Visa / MasterCard) through our secure website, or by credit card/check if ordered in a different way. The course materials cannot be shipped or accessed until payment is received. As such, if time is of the essence, we suggest that you pay by credit card. All returned checks are subject to a $30 returned check fee. This fee is in addition to any fees charged by your bank or financial institution.
Refunds
For distance learning courses, refunds will be given if requested by phone or e-°©mail within 15 days after the course materials are shipped. The refund amount will be the tuition paid less a $15 administrative fee per course, and will be paid within 30 days of cancellation. However, a student can transfer their registration to a classroom course (if available) for a $15 administrative fee per course.
Time Requirement for Course Completion
A student may take up to 90 days from the initial date of registration to complete a distance learning course with Novalis. This 90-day period is strictly a Novalis policy and is unrelated to the continuing education completion deadlines or license renewal deadlines for the state of Illinois. It is the sole responsibility of the student to ensure that he/she completes courses in time to meet the state requirements. Novalis may re-activate an expired course for a student for an additional 90 days for an administrative fee of $15 per course, as long as the course material has not changed and it is still available under the same conditions and with the same characteristics as when the student originally registered.
Grading Time
All tests and examinations will be graded within three business days of their receipt by Novalis. A “Certificate of Completion” will be sent out immediately thereafter by either U.S. mail or email.
Rush Grading Fee
Students who require that their tests be graded in less than three business days from the date they are received by Novalis can request our Rush Grading Service for an additional fee of $15 per examination.
Administrative and Re-take Exam Fees
Students who submit incomplete course completion tests, fail to submit course evaluation forms, or require a test re-take will be charged an additional fee of $15 per examination or evaluation.
Unethical Behavior
Novalis does not tolerate unethical behavior by its students when taking courses. Unethical behavior includes but is not limited to: (1) attempting to receive completion credit for courses not completed in the manner required, (2) failing to abide by Novalis course policies or attendance policies, (3) cheating or facilitating cheating on any assessment exercise, test, or examination, (4) duplicating or reproducing materials or otherwise violating the Novalis copyright policy, (5) plagiarism in any form, (6) violating the Terms of Use of the Novalis web site, (7) facilitating course completion for another student, (8) providing false or misleading information, and, (9) colluding with an examination proctor. Novalis will not issue a Certificate of Completion to any student which it believes has engaged in unethical behavior in completing a Novalis course, nor will we refund any course fees. Where required to by state license law, Novalis will also report the student to the respective state regulator. The determination of whether a student has acted unethically is made at the sole discretion of Novalis.
